Day 1 Summary and Highlights

A fairly smooth and uneventful flight saw us arrive in Colombo at 9pm local time. Transition through customs was straightforward until we got to Oskar, who, according to his visa was only 8 months old, yet he looked 15. After the quick purchase of a new visa we were met and welcomed by Malinda our tour guide.

We awoke early this morning to a hot and steamy day, and after a warm up session in the pool headed out to the Singhalese Sports Centre for our first game. Tour captain Rob lost the toss and we were sent in to bat.

In our allocated 40 overs, we managed to score 316 runs. Will (116), Matt (71) and Oscar (53) all made huge contributions. When it was our turn to bowl, we seemed to struggle a bit with a ball that had no seam and appeared to be painted red. This resulted it a number of very long overs and a sundry count of 34. However, under our ruthless barrage, the opposition academy team could only accrue 96 runs. A resounding victory with cheers all round until Tom discovered he had lost his zinc stick. A donation of bats and equipment was made to the academy team and then it was back to the hotel for an incredible feast. The boys were complimented by other guests at dinner on their good behaviour and manners. Wonders will never cease. Can't wait for tomorrow.
